The Game
Every piece you already know — King, Queen, Rook, Bishop, Knight, Pawn — moves the same way it always has. The third dimension simply extends those movements vertically, opening lines of attack that flat chess can't offer.

No — and that's actually the point. The Tri-Dimensional Chess prop on Star Trek was exactly that: a prop. No official rules were ever invented for it within the show, and the boards weren't even consistently positioned scene to scene.
